The work of the historian is the work of the sleuth and the storyteller, the keeper of tales, the teller of truth.Jill Lepore
Welcome to our online research collections. No matter whether you are making a nostalgic visit, doing your homework, or writing your next book — we hope you find the SCRR useful, as well as easy to use.
One room, catalogued
Everything the Society has put online, in one place. Search by surname, street, vessel or year when you know what you are after — or open a collection and look through it the way you would a shelf.
When it happened, and when it was told
Much of this archive is Southport looking back at itself. Susie Carson's columns and the State Port Pilot's photo features ran in the 1970s, 80s and 90s but depict the 1890s, 1920s and 1940s. Both dates are recorded here, because they answer different questions.
Threads worth pulling
Somewhere to start, if you do not yet know what you are looking for. Each one opens a search you can widen, narrow or take somewhere else entirely.
Explore now. Return as the collection grows.
The Society’s volunteers describe and organize materials in the catalog while the original files remain preserved in Google Drive.
